The Scott Family Times: Play Ball!!

Once again, a couple of weeks have passed since my last posting. During that time, Hill has been swamped preparing for baseball season to begin, and Charlie and I have found ourselves keeping busy by getting our house decorated for Easter, taking a few strolls around the neighborhood when the weather has permitted, going to North Carolina to help out poor Nana who has a broken arm, attending Charlie's very first Braves game, and enjoying his first Easter! Obviously, we keep ourselves pretty occupied these days.

While in North Carolina, we had the opportunity to visit with some friends and family, which is always wonderful. My very good friend, Carolyn Hill, and her two daughters, Abby and Katie, stopped by to visit me (actually to meet Charlie). Carolyn and I have been friends since junior high, and it's always great catching up with her. This visit provided us with the opportunity to introduce our children to each other, which made it even more special! I also took Charlie for his first visit to Pine Chapel Moravian Church. He was such a good little member of the congregation that Sunday . . . he was quiet and attentive, though he couldn't contain his excitement when the music was played. Meme snuck out of the choir loft after the choir sang their anthem so that she could sit with her new great-grandson. She must have the magic touch because he fell right to sleep in her arms. After the service, lots of folks wanted to meet Charlie, but he was too sleepy to oblige. Uncle Charlie did manage to get some love from him, though!

While it was great to see friends and family, our main reason for traveling to North Carolina was to lend a helping hand to my mom. She had cracked her right arm in three places -- all up near the top of her arm, near her shoulder. That's not a place that can be bound with a cast, so she is keeping her arm in a sling as it heals. Since she is right handed, she is finding it very challenging to do much with her left hand. She really needed help with everything from getting dressed to opening a bottle of water. I told her that by the time this is all over, she may become ambidextrious! Mom is getting a little better each day. She is definitely more than a little stir crazy since she is stuck at the house and cannot use her right hand at all. But, the pain in her arm is subsiding, and she has gotten a good report from the doctor at each appointment. At this rate, she should be as good as new in about a month or so. Until then, she just has to take it easy -- which is much easier said than done for her. I do think that Charlie provided her with some entertainment, and I did what I could to help with housework so she didn't have all of that weighing on her mind.

After nearly a week in NC, we headed back to Georgia. Hill was SO happy to have his family back home. And, he was delighted to see the new trick Charlie had picked up while we were in NC -- he is now able to roll from his back to his tummy AND from his tummy to his back. In fact, if you put him down, he's liable to roll all the way from the front door to the back door! You can just tell by his expression that he is VERY proud of his newly acquired skill. Now that he's sort of mobile, we have to be much more careful about sitting him on the sofa and walking away to grab something. We know he could take a notion to roll and end up in the floor in no time!

Last Friday, Hill's parents drove down from Highlands and accompanied us (& several of our friends/neighbors) to the Braves Home Opener at Turner Field. Charlie and I got all decked out in our Braves gear to cheer on our team! Hill had been a little concerned for several days leading up to the game because the weather forecast indicated that there was rain predicted. With that in mind, he managed to get a suite for our group so that we would be safe and dry in case a storm rolled through. Well, it's a good thing he did that! After the 3rd inning, a HUGE rainstorm rolled in, causing a 2 hour rain delay! It was interesting to see the ballpark's grounds team in action -- they had the field covered SO quickly! Just when we thought the storm was over, the rain -- and even HAIL -- would start up again! We thought that the rest of the game would surely be rained out. Charlie fell asleep, and I knew I wasn't too far behind him, so we decided to head home. Since only 3 innings had been played, we figured this game would have to be started over on Saturday (5 innings have to be played in order for the game to be called). However, the rain finally stopped, so the game was started back up again. And, the Braves were victorious! Hooray! So far, they're starting out strong this season.

On Saturday, Charlie attended his first Easter Egg Hunt in our neighborhood park. There were lots of little ones toddling around, and it was a fun afternoon. We took some very cute pictures, which I somehow managed to delete from our camera. Our memory card was full and I meant to only delete some of the older pictures to make room for new ones. It was incredibly frustrating -- especially considering that I did it mere seconds after telling Hill that I knew what I was doing! Thank goodness I had already downloaded all of the photos from the ball game the previous night!

On Easter morning, we got up and took Charlie to his first Easter Church Service. Once again, he was quiet and attentive during the service. After church, we went for Easter Brunch at Pete and Virginia Williams' house. Pete and Virginia host Easter Brunch every year, and we enjoy the tradition. It was fun introducing Charlie to the other attendees, especially considering we hadn't seen them since LAST Easter when I was pregnant! He was such a good sport and seemed to enjoy being passed around like a little hot potato all afternoon. We took part in another Easter Egg Hunt in Pete and Virginia's front yard, and we were so surprised to see that the Easter Bunny had left some special treats for Charlie to find! We had a good time visiting with this fun group of folks. Then, we headed back toward home to attend another gathering hosted by our friends and neighbors, Scott & Eileen! Once again, Charlie was the belle of the ball -- entertaining everyone and lapping up the attention he was getting. We had a very fun evening, watching the Master's, and of course, catching up with our friends. Easter was wonderful from beginning to end!

Now, another week is upon us. We are dog-sitting Katie, who is Hill's parents' yellow lab. So, we've got a house full of dogs, and we're having a great time! Poor Katie is completely blind, so it's taking her a bit of time to get used to her surroundings. Fortunately, Cowboy and Ruby are very sweet with her and have been taking her under their wings and showing her the ropes. She's already mastered the art of taking long, cozy naps on the sofa! It's been rather rainy this week, so we haven't been able to get out for walks. However, it looks like things are going to clear up tomorrow, so Charlie and I will get outside with these silly mutts and enjoy the sunshine! We can't wait!
